God gave us hunger for food and I believe he did it for two reasons. One is so that we would know what it feels like to hunger and to know that pain. Two is so that we would know the hunger for God, burns through everything that we try to satisfy ourselves with: food, porn, entertainment, money, clothes, self-improvement, position, power, drugs, attention, comfort.
God has given each of us a physical need called hunger to eat food. It is that need that God is giving us an example of what hungering after him looks like. It’s not just something that could be nice to feed off of God. Hunger is a NEED that has to be fed, and we need to get to a place where we say GOD GOD I NEED YOU!!! I WON’T GO UNLESS I HAVE YOU!!! To know that burning hunger after God.
John 6:35 I am the bread of life whoever coes to me shall not hunger and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.
What Jesus is saying here is stop filling your lives with empty things that don’t satisfy. If you hunger after him, you will not be let down, you WILL be satisfied in him.
God I am hungry. I thank you that you gave me hunger to know what it’s like to need something so bad it begins to hurt. Father I pray for a continuing outpouring of hunger over my spirit. Daddy that I would get sick to my stomache when I’m not running after you.
Hi John, I am Brittany C’s Grams and try to keep up with each of you on the “field”. Blessings are mine as I read each entry. In the midst of the rage that you expressed and is warranted, my desire is to encourage you in your walk amid the devastation you see (knowing I can’t fully relate). Christ spoke that the “poor you will have with you always” (along with, greed, idol worship, selfcentered lives, perversion, etc.) but the Lord’s example is that of an “abiding” relationship that will hold as our anchor through this world of injustice, ruled by the enemy(I John 5:19,John 14:30) “Abide in Me and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself neither can you…apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:4-5). We see Jesus “healing all who came to Him” & we see Him at the pool of Shilom, surrounded by a multitude of sick people, healing one. The only thing I know, is that He did what the Father told Him (John 5:19,12:49,15:7-12). There are many things that I don’t understand, but it keeps me pressing in, listening for instructions. How precious that you have that “burning hunger to hear”. Often times this world is just “too much” for us, and our confidence is that “those who seek Him will find Him…” The fruit of ministry there (or anywhere) will be in direct proportion to hearing what the Father says. Rage/Anger can be exhausting if not submitted to the Lord for His direction, covered with His grace & mercy. All this to say, just watch your Jesus! Your burning desire for deep relationship with Him will guide you safely through this difficult world. In His name and love. (Sorry, this was long)
John
I am SO SO THANKFUL that you have a PHONE!! It is such a blessing to be able to talk to you. I can hear your voice and even if your going through a tough time, I know how to pray for you and everyone there with you.
It’s also been great because I can fill in everyone at Mercy Street on how and what you are doing.
I am SO grateful to Landon and Kelly as they were able to talk to you on 3 way a few weeks ago, and give you such encouragement.
Of course you know how much Landon loves you! He and all with the youth are praying for you continually.
I LOVE YOU DEARLY. Talk to you just after midnight CT time, which will be your New Years morning!
Thank you to Brittany C’s Grams for such lovely words of encouragement for John!
